Meaning of Christmas

To many, Christmas is a time to share gifts and have fun with family. Eating, drinking, wrapping gifts for love ones and giving gifts. But do we all really understand the meaning of Christmas? I think Christmas is more than just eating and drinking. Christmas is a time for us to reflect on what the Lord as done for us by sending Jesus to us on this special day/period. Jesus is named Emmanuel meaning God is with us.

Christ was born to show us the way to God and to reconcile us to Himself. Jesus was fully a man and fully GOD.

At the beginning of the creation of the world, Adam and Eve sinned against God and were cut off from Him. From then on our spirit man became dead to God. We could not have any direct contact with God any more. We were cut of from our source of life. And since then man as became empty.

The only way to get through to God was through the shedding of blood to cover our sins before we could have any thing to do with Him. In the olden days, the high priest consecrate themselves before they could go before God to sacrifice lamb, goats etc for their sins and for the people. The high priest normally, intercede on behalf of the people.

As it is writing, there is no remission of sin without the shedding of blood (this is life).

The blood that was shed in the early years could not cleanse us completely from our sins but could only cleanse for a while.

This was why God sends is only begotten son to come and die for us so that we could be reconcile to Him and we could have our life back the way it was before when we have direct fellowship with God.

Christmas is a time to remember as a special gift that was given to mankind to restore to us what as been taking away (life) from us as a result of our attitude.

I would entreat us to carry this thought into the New year (2008) and as a guide to help us make a good decision that would lead us into eternal life by accepting Jesus as our Lord and saviour and to understand the reason he was born.
